Iran’s Football Federation has accused the United States of withdrawing its allocated tickets for the country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage matches, a move it says prevents Iranian supporters from attending games in the US.

In a statement released Tuesday, the federation said FIFA regulations entitle participating nations to eight per cent of match tickets for distribution to their fans. It claimed the allocation had initially been granted and ticket sales had begun before the quota was unexpectedly withdrawn.

The federation described the decision as unfair and contrary to the principles of neutrality and equal treatment in international competitions. It called on FIFA and tournament organisers to intervene and ensure Iranian supporters can attend matches.

The dispute comes amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, with Iranian officials also alleging visa difficulties for members of their World Cup delegation.

Iran will begin its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, before facing Belgium on June 21 and Egypt on June 26.

Neither FIFA nor US organisers had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
