The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has issued a stern warning to politicians in Oyo State, particularly those operating within Ibadanland, to desist from actions and utterances deemed disrespectful to the revered stool of the Olubadan.
In a statement released on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, the Council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, expressed concern over what he described as rising reckless conduct among some political actors, stressing that recent developments threaten the dignity of the traditional institution.
Ajewole made it clear that the CCII would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the Olubadan stool, describing it as sacred and central to the identity of the Ibadan people.
“The stool is sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with the highest respect at all times. Any attempt to denigrate the revered stool will be met with severe consequences,” he said.
He further emphasised that the Olubadan remains a unifying figure for all indigenes and residents, irrespective of political affiliations, and warned politicians to conduct themselves with decorum and restraint.
“All politicians in Oyo State are sons and daughters of the Olubadan. They must show absolute respect for the institution. Any attempt to cast aspersions on the stool and later tender apologies will no longer be tolerated,” Ajewole added.
The council also cautioned against dragging the traditional institution into partisan politics, insisting that the palace must not be used as a tool for political advantage.

“The palace can never become any politician’s pawn; it stands as a symbol of unity and strength. This is the last time such behaviour will be condoned,” the statement warned.
The CCII expressed displeasure over reports of politicians resorting to curses and inflammatory remarks against opponents, describing such actions as irresponsible and unbecoming of leaders.
Calling for maturity and civility in political engagement, Ajewole urged all actors to prioritise peace and unity.
“Politics should not be reduced to insults, curses, or hostility. We urge all political stakeholders to rise above bitterness and act in the collective interest of the state,” he said.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the Olubadan institution, the council called on all stakeholders to uphold respect, peace, and decorum in the political space.
