Google has opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new category of devices built around its Gemini artificial intelligence tools and integration with Android.
Starting at $899, the first models will be produced by Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo and will run on Intel or Qualcomm processors.
Google said the devices will offer up to 14 hours of battery life, depending on the model and usage.
Googlebook is built on the Android technology stack combined with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, with closer integration between Android phones and computers.
Gemini features on the devices can assist users with drafting and organising text, answering questions about content displayed on their screens and resuming certain tasks started on an Android phone.
The launch marks Google’s latest move into higher-priced laptops following the Pixelbook in 2017 and Pixelbook Go in 2019, and comes as Apple expands its lower-priced offering with the $699 MacBook Neo.
