Prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment, religious, and public sectors gathered in Lagos on Wednesday to honour the memory of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo during a service of songs held in his remembrance.

The solemn event took place at the Monarch Event Centre in the Lekki area of Lagos State, drawing a large turnout of family members, friends, colleagues, and admirers who came to celebrate the life and legacy of the late actor.

Among the notable dignitaries in attendance was former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, who joined mourners in paying tribute to Ekubo.

The service featured prayers, worship sessions, and words of encouragement led by renowned clerics, including Pastors Ituah Ighodalo and Jerry Eze. Several gospel music ministers also performed at the event, among them Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Moses Bliss, Mercy Chinwo, and members of the Laud Urban Choir.

A host of Nollywood stars turned out to support the bereaved family and honour their late colleague. Those present included actresses Funke Akindele, Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Dayo Amusan, Blessing Nze, and Ruth Kadiri, among others.

Also in attendance were actors Ike Ogbonna, Stan Nze, Kunle Remi, and Mike Godson, while comedian Ayo Makun (AY), media personality Frank Edoho, fashion entrepreneur Yomi Casual, socialite Cubana Chief Priest, music stars Kcee and Chike, as well as businessman E-Money, were among the guests who paid their respects.

Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos following a prolonged battle with advanced kidney cancer. His death sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders across the country.

The late actor is scheduled to be laid to rest on June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Ujari Village, Abia State, where family members, friends, and well-wishers are expected to gather for his final farewell.
