The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says more than 5,000 Nigerians in the United Kingdom have been enrolled under its ongoing Special Passport Intervention Exercise aimed at clearing outstanding passport applications and renewals.
The Service said another 516 applicants were enrolled at its London and Manchester centres on Saturday, September 19, bringing the cumulative number recorded since the exercise began to 5,099.
According to the NIS, 370 applicants were enrolled in Manchester, while another 146 were processed in London during the latest round.
The Service said operations continued without interruption at both centres, while production and dispatch of passports for applicants who had previously completed enrolment were also progressing.
EXERCISE TARGETS PASSPORT BACKLOG
The special intervention began on September 7, 2026, following a directive by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of efforts to address passport-related challenges facing Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
The programme covers new passport applications, renewals and other pending cases requiring attention.
Operations in London and Manchester were extended beyond the initial mid-September completion date following high demand from Nigerians seeking to participate in the exercise.
The NIS said the intervention remains ongoing and urged applicants to cooperate with officials to ensure an orderly process.
Eligible Nigerians are expected to secure appointments through the Service’s official channels and provide the required documentation at the designated enrolment centres.
The exercise forms part of continuing efforts by the Immigration Service and the Ministry of Interior to reduce passport processing delays and improve access to Nigerian travel documents for citizens abroad.
