Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in safeguarding oil and gas installations and other critical national assets across the state.
Fubara gave the assurance while receiving the newly appointed Commander of the 6 Division Garrison and Sector 3, Joint Task Force (South-South), Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General Ismaila Sule, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor congratulated Sule on his appointment and expressed confidence in the continued cooperation between the Rivers State Government and the Nigerian Army.

He noted that successive administrations in the state had maintained productive relationships with the military, particularly in addressing security challenges and protecting strategic infrastructure.
Fubara welcomed plans to establish a new military formation in Ahoada, describing the development as an important step towards strengthening security and addressing tensions within the area.
According to him, an increased military presence could contribute to improved stability, protect economic activities and create a more secure environment for residents and businesses.
The governor, however, emphasised that his administration would continue to respect the military’s professional independence and statutory responsibilities.
He maintained that the state government would not request military intervention in matters that could compromise established operational standards or infringe upon the rights of citizens.
Fubara said his administration remained focused on maintaining peace, encouraging investment and advancing development across Rivers State.
Speaking during the visit, Brigadier General Sule expressed appreciation for the reception and acknowledged the support the Nigerian Army had received from the Rivers State Government.
He disclosed that Rivers State was expected to benefit from a proposed expansion of the Nigerian Army’s divisional structure from eight to 12 divisions, following a directive attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Sule, the expansion would include the establishment of a new brigade in Ahoada, supported by affiliated battalions.
He explained that the proposed formation would strengthen the military’s operational presence and enhance its capacity to respond to security challenges within the state.
The development comes amid continuing efforts to safeguard oil and gas infrastructure, protect communities and maintain security across the Niger Delta.
The state government and military leadership reiterated their commitment to sustained cooperation in protecting lives, property and critical national assets.
