The Free Zone Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated ₦557.02 billion in revenue between January and August 2026.
The outgoing Customs Area Controller, Hauwa Abubakar Anifowoshe, disclosed the figure during a handover ceremony as she retired after 35 years of service.
Anifowoshe attributed the Command’s performance to the collective efforts of officers and personnel, as well as cooperation with businesses and other stakeholders operating within the Free Zone corridor.
She said her administration focused on improving staff welfare, strengthening relations with host communities and deepening collaboration with other government agencies.
The Command also maintained engagement with Free Zone operators, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, bonded terminals and other stakeholders involved in trade and logistics activities within its jurisdiction.
Anifowoshe said the revenue performance and other achievements recorded during her tenure were products of teamwork, discipline and professionalism rather than individual effort.

“Whatever successes we recorded during my time as Area Controller were not achieved by me alone,” she said, crediting officers and staff for their commitment.
Anifowoshe handed over leadership of the Command to Deputy Comptroller of Customs Olufemi Kukoyi, who assumed responsibility as Acting Customs Area Comptroller.
Kukoyi pledged to consolidate the achievements of the outgoing administration while strengthening operational efficiency, enforcement, technology deployment and trade facilitation.
Anifowoshe urged officers and stakeholders to extend the same level of cooperation she received to the new leadership.
She also emphasised the importance of maintaining professional relationships beyond individual tenures, saying leadership positions were temporary while relationships built through service could endure.

After taking over the Command, Kukoyi said his immediate priority would be to consolidate existing gains and further strengthen Customs operations across the Free Zone corridor.
