Former Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State, triggering shock and grief across Nigeria’s football community.

Eneramo, 40, reportedly slumped on the pitch while featuring in a local game at the Angwan Yelwa area in Kaduna on Friday. According to reports, he had come on as a second-half substitute before suddenly collapsing without any physical contact.

Eyewitnesses said attempts were made to revive him immediately, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital after efforts to save his life failed.

The former international, who had retired from professional football, enjoyed a career that saw him play for clubs in Nigeria and abroad, including stints in Turkey and Tunisia. He was also known to have been running a football academy before his death.

Following the incident, tributes poured in from across the football community. The official Super Eagles social media handle mourned him with a brief message honouring his memory.

Eneramo’s sudden death has once again raised concerns about player health and emergency response during matches, especially in informal or local football settings. His passing adds to a growing list of footballers worldwide who have died after collapsing during games.

He is survived by family members, friends, and a legacy as a former national team striker who represented Nigeria on the international stage.
