The Military Secretary (Army), Maj. Gen. Everest Okoro, has urged officers of the Nigerian Army to prioritise early and strategic career planning as they advance through the ranks.
Maj. Gen. Okoro gave the charge during a sensitisation lecture organised for officers within the 2 Division Area of Responsibility, aimed at enhancing career development and informed decision-making among personnel.

He encouraged officers to take ownership of their professional growth by excelling in their duties and proactively shaping their career paths. He also provided detailed insights into the roles, structure, and functions of the Army Headquarters Department of the Military Secretary, as well as key aspects of career management, review processes, and discharge procedures.
In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, described the lecture as a strategic initiative designed to prepare future leaders of the Nigerian Army. He noted that while the Division remains committed to operational excellence, effective career management is equally vital for sustained success.
The GOC commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his continued support and leadership, and appreciated the Military Secretary and his team for promoting transparency and merit-based career progression in line with global best practices.

He urged participants to maximise the knowledge gained from the session to enhance their professional development.
