The Federal Government of Nigeria has renewed its commitment to reducing transportation costs for Nigerians through the wider adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cheaper and cleaner alternative to conventional fuels.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said more than $2 billion in private investment has been secured since the CNG Initiative was launched in 2023.
According to the minister, more than 120,000 vehicles have been converted at over 400 conversion centres, while more than 90 CNG refuelling stations are currently operational nationwide.
He added that 7,700 technicians have been trained and over 10,000 jobs created, with commuters, transporters and fleet operators already benefiting from lower fuel costs.
Ekpo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the establishment of 500 additional CNG refuelling stations, which he said would expand the national network to 1,000.
He urged more state governments to embrace the programme, stressing that broader CNG adoption would drive down transportation costs, create jobs and provide much-needed relief for Nigerians.
The Federal Government says the expansion of CNG infrastructure remains central to its drive for cheaper, cleaner and more accessible transportation across the country.
