The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states, describing their rescue as a matter of national importance.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a security briefing in Abuja, stating that authorities are treating the incidents with the highest level of urgency.

According to the minister, the kidnappings pose a significant threat to the nation’s education sector and the future of young Nigerians. He noted that security agencies have intensified operations aimed at locating and rescuing the victims following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Idris said the government remains determined to ensure the safe return of those in captivity while pursuing those responsible for the abductions.

He stressed that the administration would not relent in its efforts, reiterating the President’s position that every child deserves protection and access to education without fear.

“The President has made it clear that no child should be held in captivity, and every available resource is being deployed to secure their freedom,” the minister said.

He also conveyed assurances from President Tinubu to the affected families, urging them to remain hopeful as security agencies continue rescue operations.

The minister added that the President has ordered a comprehensive response from relevant security agencies to track down the kidnappers and strengthen efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
