The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has clarified the official appellation of President Bola Tinubu following what it described as recurring errors by some organisations and media outlets.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga.

Odunuga said the statement was personally signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who urged the public and media organisations to verify official titles before publication to avoid “embarrassing and avoidable errors.”
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: ‘His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’,” the statement said.
The OSGF advised media organisations and members of the public to confirm official information through its verified communication channels, including Facebook (@OfficeoftheSGF), Instagram (OfficialOSGFNG), X formerly Twitter (@OfficialOSGF), and email (info@osgf.gov.ng).
According to the statement, the clarification became necessary following an error observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.

Odunuga said Akume noted that such mistakes could be avoided through proper verification from appropriate official sources.
