The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured public servants that payment of the outstanding wage award will commence before August 15, while promotion arrears are also being processed as part of efforts to fulfil its commitments to workers.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, during a meeting with the leadership of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council.

According to the minister, the necessary approvals for the release of the wage award are being finalised, expressing confidence that eligible workers will begin receiving the payments before the middle of the month.

Oyedele also disclosed that the government is processing promotion arrears, including Batch 7, which was previously omitted, alongside Batch 9. He added that work was ongoing on the payment of peculiar allowances and other outstanding entitlements owed to public servants.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to honouring agreements reached with organised labour through continuous dialogue and timely implementation, noting that the move is aimed at sustaining industrial harmony across the public service.

Responding, leaders of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council welcomed the government’s assurance and urged the Federal Government to expedite the implementation of all outstanding agreements in the interest of workers.
