The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that young people in the Nyanya area of Abuja were selling their kidneys for money.
The command also denied reports that an agent operating in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was allegedly purchasing kidneys from the youths.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
Adeh said the command had neither received nor verified any report relating to the alleged sale of human kidneys in the Nyanya area.
She stressed that no official statement or communication confirming the claims had been issued by the FCT Police Command.
“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature,” she said.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to disregard the reports and avoid sharing unverified information that could create unnecessary fear and panic among residents.
She, however, encouraged anyone with credible information about alleged human organ trafficking or other security concerns within the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station.
Adeh also provided the command’s contact lines, 07038979348 and 08028940883, for residents who may have relevant information.
The police command reiterated the importance of relying on verified information from official sources when reporting sensitive security matters.
