The family of a Nigerian woman, Christiana Nwosu, has launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains to Nigeria after she reportedly died of cardiac arrest while visiting the United Kingdom.
According to a GoFundMe appeal signed by Chijioke Metuka on behalf of the Nwosu family, Christiana passed away on July 19, 2026, leaving her children and loved ones devastated by her sudden death.
The family described her as a compassionate and loving woman whose passing has left an irreplaceable void.
The family said their greatest wish is to return her body to Nigeria for burial so she can be laid to rest among her extended family and in her ancestral home. However, they noted that the cost of repatriating her remains from the UK is estimated at £10,000, covering funeral director services, specialist repatriation arrangements, documentation, air freight, transportation and burial expenses in Nigeria.
Appealing for public support, the family said every donation would go directly towards easing the financial burden of bringing Christiana home for a proper burial. They also encouraged those unable to contribute financially to share the fundraising campaign and keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
As of the time of the report, the campaign had raised £7,941 of its £10,000 target.
The incident comes months after another Nigerian woman, Oluranti Akinyemi, died in the UK shortly after travelling to attend her son’s graduation ceremony, prompting her family to launch a separate fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains to Nigeria.
