Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has praised Ousmane Dembele after the French forward scored twice in the club’s 6-1 Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava.
Dembele opened the scoring before adding a second goal as PSG made a strong start to their campaign for a third consecutive Champions League title.
Enrique described the Ballon d’Or winner’s performance as “marvellous”, saying he was pleased with Dembele’s ability to create chances, press opponents and contribute to the team.
Dembele also provided two assists for Ferran Torres, who scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for PSG. Fabian Ruiz completed the scoring for the hosts.
Enrique said Dembele had been carefully managed at the start of the season as he worked his way back to full fitness.
The PSG coach also praised Yaya Toure, the former Ivory Coast, Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder who now manages Bratislava.
Despite the heavy defeat, Enrique commended Toure’s approach and predicted he could become a successful coach.
Toure, who guided Bratislava through three qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League league phase, admitted PSG were on another level.
The former African football star said his players gave their best but struggled against the defending champions, singling out Dembele’s performance as particularly difficult to contain.
Toure added that facing one of Europe’s best teams would help his players gain experience and improve.
