At least eight people have been killed following a violent confrontation between farmers and herders in Gulma town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The clash was reportedly triggered after a farmer was allegedly stabbed to death by a herder while working on his farmland, an incident that quickly escalated into a reprisal attack.

Angry members of the farming community were said to have stormed nearby Fulani settlements in retaliation, leading to further killings and heightening tensions across the area.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command said the violence occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, described the attack as a reprisal following the earlier killing of the farmer, adding that security operatives were deployed immediately to restore order and contain the situation.

According to the police, eight people lost their lives in the clashes, while four injured victims were rescued and taken to a medical facility for treatment before being discharged.

Usman further stated that security forces have since brought the situation under control and restored calm in the community. Additional personnel have been deployed to prevent further outbreaks of violence.

He urged residents of the area to remain peaceful and avoid taking the law into their hands, advising that grievances should be addressed through lawful and appropriate channels rather than retaliation.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to prevent a recurrence of violence in the affected community.
