The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Republic of Lebanon have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral collaboration in the fight against corruption, money laundering and other economic and financial crimes.

The renewed partnership was announced on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Consul General of Lebanon, Mansour Chaya, to the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC.

Speaking during the visit, the Acting Zonal Director of Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Adebayo Adeniyi, received the Lebanese envoy and discussed areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening efforts against transnational financial crimes.

Chaya commended the EFCC for what he described as its unwavering commitment to sanitising Nigeria’s economic environment and combating corruption.

According to him, the visit was aimed at fostering stronger cooperation and building a more structured bilateral relationship between Lebanon and Nigeria in tackling economic and financial crimes.

“We want to work with you and collaborate more closely. We want to take this relationship to the next level by building stronger bilateral ties,” Chaya said.

He added that the current government in Lebanon operates a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and remains committed to complying with international regulations and laws designed to curb money laundering and related crimes.

“The new government of the Republic of Lebanon has zero tolerance for corruption, and we are committed to abiding by regulations and legislations put in place to combat money laundering and other financial crimes across all sectors,” he stated.
