The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Benin Zonal Directorate, has reported the conviction and sentencing of Samuel Akove Adavize to two years’ imprisonment for fraud-related offences in Edo State.

According to an account attributed to the anti-graft agency, Adavize was convicted on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, by Justice E. G. Adekanmbi of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City.

The defendant reportedly faced a two-count charge involving impersonation, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents.

Following the proceedings, the court sentenced Adavize to two years’ imprisonment and ordered the forfeiture of ₦400,000 identified as proceeds of the offence.

The judge also reportedly directed that an iPhone 12 recovered from the convict, which was identified as an instrument used in committing the offence, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

In addition to the prison sentence and forfeiture orders, the court directed the permanent closure of Adavize’s accounts maintained with OPay and Sparkle Microfinance Bank.

The orders were intended to address the financial proceeds and instruments linked to the offences for which the defendant was convicted.

The report did not disclose the identities of the victims, the precise circumstances of the fraudulent transactions or whether the convict was given the option of a fine.

It also did not specify whether Adavize pleaded guilty to the charges or was convicted following a contested trial.

The conviction represents another reported prosecution by the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting economic and financial crimes within its jurisdiction.

The commission has previously secured convictions involving impersonation, advance-fee fraud, fraudulent documents and the unlawful retention of criminal proceeds in Edo State.

Such prosecutions have also resulted in court orders requiring the forfeiture of funds and electronic devices established to have been connected with criminal activities.

The latest reported judgment includes both a custodial sentence and additional orders concerning the convict’s financial accounts and recovered property.
