The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, has urged graduating students to reject corruption, uphold integrity and use their education to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

Adelakun delivered the charge on Saturday during the institution’s fourth convocation ceremony in Oyo State, where 140 students graduated, including 27 reported to have earned First Class degrees.

Addressing the graduands, the chancellor emphasised discipline, hard work, moral responsibility and the importance of maintaining strong personal values after leaving the university.

He warned that the pursuit of wealth, political influence or professional advancement should never become an excuse for dishonesty or misconduct.

Adelakun challenged the graduates to become part of the solution to Nigeria’s challenges rather than contribute to the problems confronting the country.

He urged them to demonstrate integrity in their workplaces, businesses and communities while applying their knowledge to national development.

Reflecting on the university’s progress since its establishment seven years ago, the chancellor said its academic programmes had received full accreditation, with three scheduled for reaccreditation in 2026.

He described the graduating class, known as the Daystars, as the fourth in the institution’s sequence of graduating sets, following the Pacesetters, Lightbearers and Eagles.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jonah Akoun, said the university offered 16 academic programmes and recorded a student population of 780 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic session.

Akoun highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening academic standards and student welfare, including work-study opportunities, research ethics policies and measures to address sexual harassment.

He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to combining academic excellence with character development and responsible leadership.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Dolapo Adelakun, congratulated the graduating students and acknowledged the contributions of parents, guardians and university staff.

He encouraged the graduates to remain resilient and use their acquired knowledge to address challenges facing society.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of Nadia Rita Bayakly of the Department of Mass Communication as the overall best graduating student.

Bayakly recorded a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.00 out of 5.00, reflecting an outstanding academic performance.

The university previously graduated 148 students in 2024 and 130 in 2025 before presenting its 2026 graduating class.

The ceremony concluded with renewed calls for graduates to combine professional competence with integrity, ethical leadership and commitment to national progress.
