Aliko Dangote’s Dangote Industries Limited has begun preliminary processes for the construction of a multi-billion-dollar deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, as part of efforts to expand the group’s logistics and export infrastructure.

The company disclosed that the proposed port, which will span more than 10,000 hectares, forms a major part of its Vision 2030 strategy aimed at strengthening its position as a global industrial and manufacturing powerhouse.

The deep-sea port is planned for the Olokola axis in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, extending toward Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State along the Atlantic coastline. According to the company, the facility is expected to serve as a strategic hub for exports, imports, and regional maritime trade.

A delegation led by the Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics at Dangote Industries, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, visited host communities in Ogun and Ondo states to commence stakeholder consultations ahead of the project’s execution.

Speaking during the engagement, Abubakar described the seaport as a transformative initiative capable of boosting Nigeria’s economic and trade capacity.

“The Olokola Port project is a major step in opening up Nigeria’s economic potential, strengthening trade, reducing pressure on existing ports, and supporting industrial growth,” he said.

He added that the project would generate employment opportunities, stimulate business activities, and promote long-term development in host communities across both states.

According to him, the port is being designed as a logistics gateway that will support an integrated industrial ecosystem and strengthen Africa’s regional commerce and logistics network.

The facility is also expected to support the export of fertilisers, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products, while enabling future liquefied natural gas exports and the importation of heavy industrial equipment.

During the visit, the Dangote delegation, accompanied by surveyors and environmental consultants, toured communities including Ode-Omi in Ogun State, as well as Araromi Seaside Kingdom and Igbokoda in Ondo State.

The Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan, welcomed the initiative and pledged the community’s support for the project.

Similarly, the Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, expressed optimism about the development, assuring the company of the kingdom’s cooperation.

The delegation also visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, where the Acting Commanding Officer, Lt. Commander A.A. Makinwa, pledged support for the project in line with national economic interests.

Dangote Industries said the proposed seaport would drive job creation, attract foreign direct investment, and stimulate growth across sectors including manufacturing, logistics, and services.

The company added that the project would further strengthen Nigeria’s export diversification efforts and improve the country’s participation in intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.
