The Comptroller of the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Patrick Ntadi, has called for enhanced collaboration among security agencies to effectively tackle smuggling activities along Nigeria’s southwestern waterways.

Ntadi made this known on April 22, 2026, while receiving the Commanding Officer of the 15 Field Engineer Regiment of the Nigerian Army, Augustine Amangele, during a courtesy visit to the Command in Badagry.

Welcoming his guest, the Customs Comptroller described the visit as a crucial step toward strengthening inter-agency relationships, stressing that such engagements are vital for fostering cooperation across government institutions.

“When you visit a sister agency, you are building a proper relationship within government institutions,” Ntadi said.

He emphasised that collaboration is essential in addressing smuggling, noting that both the Customs Service and the Nigerian Army share a common national objective of safeguarding the country’s economic interests. He added that the Western Marine Command maintains similar partnerships with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Navy, in protecting Nigeria’s coastline.

“Fighting smuggling is everybody’s responsibility because it hurts our economy. We must work together to combat smugglers who see it as a business while the country suffers losses,” he added.

In his remarks, Lieutenant Colonel Amangele described the visit as part of a longstanding military tradition aimed at strengthening operational synergy among security agencies.

“It is customary within the system that when you fall within our area of responsibility, we extend courtesy visits to build strong working relationships and achieve coordinated operations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Command also organised a two-day medical outreach programme focused on stress management for officers and personnel.

The Zone ‘A’ Medical Officer, Roland Nwankwo, highlighted the importance of maintaining healthy daily habits to improve overall well-being. He noted that the programme provided officers with practical strategies to manage stress, particularly during demanding operational periods.

“We know stress is part of daily life, and we have enlightened personnel on its various forms and practical ways to cope, especially during periods of distress,” Nwankwo said.
