The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has announced plans to honour 755 professionals and distinguished personalities at its 2026 Fellowship Investiture, scheduled for Saturday, October 31, in Lagos.

The ceremony will recognise individuals from the banking and finance industry, government, the private sector, and academia for their contributions to professional development, ethical standards, and economic growth.

According to the institute, 18 personalities will receive honorary fellowships, while 460 Associates will be elevated to elected Fellows. Another 277 senior bank executives and academics will receive Honorary Senior Membership.

Among the honorary fellowship recipients are Sam Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor; Thompson Oludare Sunday, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation; and Dr Ibrahim Stevens, Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone.

Other recipients include businesswoman Folorunsho Alakija, Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil Limited; Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria; and Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Chairman of Dangote Cement Plc.

Also listed are Afolabi Olorode, Managing Director of Quest Merchant Bank; Tokunbo Talabi, Secretary to the Ogun State Government; and Dr Siraju Salisu, Managing Director of Summit Bank Limited.

The institute said the recognition reflects the recipients’ professional achievements, commitment to ethical conduct and contributions to the development of banking and the wider economy.

A major highlight of the ceremony will be a keynote address by Dr Tayo Aduloju, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

The address, titled Bank Recapitalisation: Leveraging New Bank Capital for Nigeria’s Industrial Transformation, will examine opportunities for directing increased banking capital towards industrial development and economic expansion.

The discussion comes as Nigeria’s banking industry adjusts to higher minimum capital requirements introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, are expected to attend as special guests of honour.

Bello Maccido, Chief Executive Officer of Crosse Pointe Capital & Advisory, will chair the ceremony, while CIBN President Dele Alabi will serve as chief host.

The investiture is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, with participation expected from banking executives, policymakers, academics and other stakeholders.

The institute maintained that the annual recognition programme is intended to promote professionalism, strengthen ethical standards and encourage leadership within Nigeria’s financial services industry.
