Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has described Youri Tielemans as the club’s best signing of the summer transfer window ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Tielemans joined United from Aston Villa for £35 million after the club triggered the midfielder’s release clause. The 29-year-old Belgium international has previously played in the Champions League and represented his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
United have also added several players to manager Michael Carrick’s squad during the summer, including Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson, Cristian Orozco and Tynan Thompson.
Butt, who spent most of his playing career at Manchester United, believes Tielemans represents the standout addition because of his experience, age and quality.

“I think Youri Tielemans is the best signing of the transfer window,” Butt said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“Looking at his fee, his age, his experience – he’s played in the Champions League and World Cups, and he is a great footballer. I think that is a brilliant signing for Manchester United.”
Tielemans arrives at Old Trafford after helping Aston Villa win the Europa League last season and secure Champions League football. He has also already featured for United during pre-season under Carrick.
The Belgian midfielder has said he is adapting quickly to Carrick’s system, with the manager expecting him to provide leadership and organisation in United’s midfield.
United will begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign against Hull City on August 22.
