Boko Haram has released a video paying tribute to one of its cameramen and videographers, identified as Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was killed during a failed attack on a Nigerian military base.
The three-minute, three-second video, narrated in Arabic, shows the deceased operating a camera and taking part in several operations carried out by the terrorist group.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, Abu Salim al-Barnawi had previously led cross-border raids into Cameroon before joining the group’s media unit.
Captain Goni said the terrorist was killed by Nigerian troops during an attempted assault on a military camp last week.
The military described the release of the video as an obituary issued by the terrorist group in honour of the slain operative.
The development comes days after Operation Hadin Kai announced the neutralisation of an ISWAP cameraman during a failed infiltration attempt in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military said video materials recovered during the operation pointed to the presence of three foreign facilitators within the terrorist network, including a Palestinian identified as a trainer and a Moroccan serving as a medical doctor.
Operation Hadin Kai says it will continue sustained operations to dismantle terrorist networks and deny insurgents the ability to regroup.
