Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has described the visit by former First Lady Aisha Buhari as a reminder of the need to prioritise the welfare and dignity of Nigerians.
Atiku, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election, disclosed this in a post on his X account after receiving Aisha Buhari on Wednesday.
He described the meeting as warm and appreciated the former First Lady for the visit, but neither he nor Aisha publicly disclosed specific details about their discussions or stated the immediate purpose of the meeting.
Atiku said the encounter reinforced what he described as the responsibility of those seeking to lead the country to put citizens’ welfare and future at the centre of governance.
He also highlighted the economic pressures facing Nigerian households, citing the rising cost of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other necessities.
According to the former vice-president, Nigeria needs an economy that creates opportunities, rewards hard work and enables families to live with dignity and hope.
He said efforts to build such a country should focus on reducing the economic burden on citizens and restoring confidence in the future.
The meeting comes as political activities and alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. Aisha Buhari, who served as First Lady during the administration of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, has previously been associated with political activities, while Atiku is seeking the presidency under the ADC.
