The private office of the Vice Chairman of Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State, Tolutope Olayinka, has reportedly been set ablaze in Ilesa, with his lawyer alleging that suspected political thugs carried out the attack.
Some supporters of the All Progressives Congress were also reportedly injured during the incident near St Peter’s Church, Bolorunduro, after the assailants allegedly opened fire.
The allegations were contained in a petition submitted to the Osun State Commissioner of Police by Olatunbosun Oladipupo, a lawyer representing Olayinka and other affected persons.
According to the petition, Olayinka had received threats before the Osun governorship election after allegedly refusing a request to join another political party.
The lawyer claimed that the matter was reported to the police and that some suspects were subsequently arrested.
He further alleged that after the suspects were released from police custody, Olayinka’s business premises in Ilesa were attacked and set ablaze.
The petition alleged that property including water tanks, generators and other equipment was destroyed, while clothes, jewellery, cash and important documents were taken from the premises.
One employee was also reportedly injured during the attack.
Oladipupo said his client remained concerned about his safety and that of his family because of alleged continuing threats.
The lawyer consequently urged the police authorities to investigate the incident, arrest those responsible and provide appropriate protection for his client.
RismadarVoice could not independently establish the identities of those responsible for the attack or verify the allegations contained in the petition at the time of this report.
Osun has witnessed allegations of politically linked violence involving rival political groups in recent months, with parties trading accusations and security agencies repeatedly being urged to investigate attacks and prosecute those responsible.
