The newly deployed Abia State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Yunusa Tanimu, has called on staff of the scheme to place the welfare of corps members at the forefront of their responsibilities.

Tanimu made the appeal during his maiden meeting with management staff at the state secretariat, where he outlined his expectations for improved service delivery and institutional efficiency.

He urged staff to demonstrate exemplary conduct, stressing the importance of serving as role models; not only to corps members but also to their subordinates. According to him, maintaining a high level of dedication and professionalism remains critical to achieving the objectives of the scheme.

Emphasising timeliness and accountability, the Coordinator charged staff to adhere strictly to deadlines, particularly those set by the NYSC Headquarters.

“Let us be prompt in the performance of assigned tasks, including those regarding which the Headquarters has set timelines for delivery. What you have to do today, do not leave till tomorrow. Time is of essence,” he stated.

Tanimu further encouraged continuous self-development among staff, noting that versatility would enhance their ability to effectively supervise and mentor junior officers.

He also underscored the importance of teamwork, calling on Assistant Directors and Heads of Branches to collaborate closely in advancing the scheme’s mandate in the state.

Reaffirming his leadership style, Tanimu described himself as a team player committed to inclusive administration.

“I am here as a team player; to lead, not to rule. So, I appeal to every one of us to sustain that team spirit as attested to by my predecessor,” he added.
