A 41-year-old man, Gbadura Temitope, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud involving N1.1 million.

Temitope is facing a two-count charge of fraud and conversion of funds. According to the prosecution, led by Insp. Olubu Apata, the defendant allegedly committed the offences on February 5, 2021, in Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant obtained N1.1 million from the complainant, Mr Ojo Momoh, under the pretence of selling three plots of land, an assertion he allegedly knew to be false. He was further accused of converting the funds for personal use.
Apata said the offences contravene Sections 328 and 295 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, and requested an adjournment to enable the prosecution to study the case file and present witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant bail, assuring that his client would not abscond from trial.

Ruling on the application, Magistrate Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until June 17 for a hearing.
