Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has transferred the management of the Ibom Model Farm to Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) as part of efforts to strengthen food security, agricultural innovation and agro-tourism in the state.
Governor Eno announced the decision during an inspection of the facility, explaining that while the university will oversee the day-to-day management of the farm, the Ministry of Agriculture will provide supervisory oversight to ensure the project achieves its objectives.

The governor said the state government is putting the necessary infrastructure in place to commence full operations at the farm, describing the facility as a multi-purpose agricultural hub designed to combine food production, research, training and tourism.
According to him, the project, inspired by the renowned Songhai Farm model, will serve as a prototype for similar model farms to be established in Ini Local Government Area for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and Eastern Obolo Local Government Area for Eket Senatorial District.
Governor Eno expressed confidence in the university’s capacity to manage the project, urging its management and the Faculty of Agriculture to deploy their expertise in making the farm a centre of excellence in modern agriculture.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, said the Ibom Model Farm is designed not only to enhance food production but also to build human capacity and promote agro-tourism in line with the state’s agricultural development agenda.

The Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Professor Otoabasi Akpan, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the institution, assuring that the university would leverage its technical expertise to transform the farm into a model for sustainable agriculture, research and innovation.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the agricultural revolution component of the ARISE Agenda and will make a significant contribution to ensuring long-term food security and economic development in Akwa Ibom State.
