More than 20 African heads of state and government representatives are expected to gather in Egypt on Friday for the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum aimed at strengthening trade, investment and economic cooperation across the continent.
The three-day forum, scheduled for October 2 to 4 in New Alamein, will bring together political leaders, business executives, bankers and development institutions.
The forum is designed as a permanent African business platform to be held every two years in Egypt, with discussions covering infrastructure, trade, critical minerals, digital innovation, healthcare and emerging industries.
It is being co-organised by the Egyptian government, the African Export-Import Bank and the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD.
Organisers say the gathering will seek to strengthen links between governments, businesses and financial institutions while promoting cross-border partnerships and intra-African trade.
The summit comes as African countries seek to increase investment and economic integration while expanding opportunities for businesses to operate across national borders.
Egypt has also been seeking to deepen its economic engagement with African countries through investments and infrastructure projects.
The gathering will take place alongside other major continental meetings in New Alamein, including a summit of the founding states of AUDA-NEPAD and the African Union’s eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.
The forum will also provide an opportunity for governments and private-sector leaders to discuss financing for infrastructure, agriculture, technology, healthcare and other sectors considered important to Africa’s economic development.
Egyptian officials say the meetings are intended to support African economic integration, mobilise resources and develop partnerships capable of advancing the continent’s development priorities.
