No fewer than eight aspirants have indicated interest in contesting the Rivers State governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party also commended former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for picking the party’s presidential nomination form.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt by the State ADC Chairman-elect, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa.
Dimkpa described the growing interest in the party as evidence that the ADC has become a preferred platform for credible leadership and progressive governance in Rivers State and across the country.

“The formal declaration of intent by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of the African Democratic Congress marks yet another major milestone in the growing national momentum around the party,” the statement read.
According to him, the party has witnessed an unprecedented surge in political participation ahead of the next general elections.
“In Rivers State, the level of interest generated within the ADC has been extraordinary. No fewer than eight prominent individuals have already indicated interest in contesting for the office of governor under the platform of the party,” he said.
Dimkpa disclosed that those interested in the governorship race include former public office holders, technocrats, professionals, and private sector operators.
He listed among them a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, and a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
The ADC chairman-elect added that several qualified individuals have also shown interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats under the party’s platform.
He said the development demonstrates that the ADC is increasingly being viewed not as an alternative party but as “the vehicle for the future.”

“It is a convergence of experience, competence, credibility, youth energy, and grassroots belief in a new political direction for Rivers State and Nigeria,” he stated.
Dimkpa further assured that the party would maintain transparent processes, internal democracy, and issue-based politics as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
