The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over what it describes as political interference ahead of its scheduled convention, accusing authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of attempting to block the event.

In a statement released by the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC claimed that the management of Rainbow Event Centre, its chosen venue, had come under pressure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to the statement, the venue owner was allegedly warned that hosting the ADC convention could lead to the revocation of the centre’s operating licence.

The party, however, insists it has fulfilled all contractual and financial obligations for the use of the facility and plans to proceed with the convention as scheduled.

“We have already signed a contract and met all requirements. We will hold our convention tomorrow at the Rainbow Event Centre as planned,” Abdullahi stated.

Describing the situation as an attempt to stifle democratic participation, the ADC condemned what it called “creeping tyranny,” maintaining that it would not be intimidated.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the FCDA or the office of the FCT Minister regarding the allegations.

The development raises fresh concerns about political space, freedom of assembly, and the neutrality of regulatory authorities, particularly as political activities begin to intensify ahead of future elections.

Observers say the outcome of the situation could test institutional independence and the enforcement of contractual rights in the FCT.

The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to holding the convention, signaling a potential standoff if authorities move to enforce any restrictions at the venue.
