A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) electoral panel and adviser to the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, Chille Igbawua, has urged aggrieved aspirants to channel their complaints through the party’s internal appeal mechanism rather than publicly rejecting the outcome of the presidential primaries.

Igbawua made the call while reacting to concerns raised by former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, and presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen over the conduct of the party’s primary election.

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, he stressed that the party had already established procedures for resolving disputes arising from the electoral process.

“Anybody who is aggrieved by the primary process should go to the appeal and state their reasons. Saying you don’t agree with the process is jumping the gun,” he said.

Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the ADC presidential primary, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the exercise.

The former Rivers State governor claimed that a large number of party members across the country were unable to participate in the voting process.

Similarly, Hayatu-Deen reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the process and declined participation in the announcement of the presidential primary results, citing alleged irregularities.

Responding to the concerns, Igbawua explained that the party had set up appeal structures specifically designed to address grievances at various stages of the process.

“The various electoral panels had appeal panels which are already in place. If anyone feels unfairly treated during screening or the primary process, such individuals should present their case before the appropriate panel,” he said.

He added that errors could occur in human processes but noted that the appeal system exists to ensure fairness and proper review where necessary.

According to him, previous appeals had led to the reconsideration and clearance of some candidates, demonstrating the effectiveness of the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanism.

He expressed optimism that dissatisfied aspirants would take advantage of the available channels to seek redress.
