The Adamawa State chapter of the Labour Party has suspended four members over alleged violations of the party’s constitution and acts of insubordination.
The affected members are Kamalludeen Jibrilla Aliyu, Andrew Adamu, Suleiman Abdulkareem and Tufanus Daniel.
The party alleged that the four were among members who participated in an unauthorised meeting aimed at removing the state chairman, Jonah Theman Kalpenge, from office.
The members were also accused of refusing to appear before a disciplinary committee constituted by the party to investigate their alleged involvement in the matter.
The suspension was approved by the State Working Committee following recommendations contained in a report submitted by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
In a statement on Monday, the party said its disciplinary panel investigated the alleged involvement of the four members in a meeting held at the Labour Party state secretariat in Yola on August 5, 2026.
The meeting, according to the party, was unconstitutional and was allegedly convened as part of efforts to remove the state chairman.
Following its investigation, the Disciplinary Committee recommended disciplinary action against the affected members.
The State Working Committee subsequently endorsed their suspension, saying their conduct amounted to violations of the party’s rules.
The party said the members were invited to appear before the disciplinary committee on August 8, 2026, to explain their actions.
However, according to the Labour Party, none of the four members appeared before the committee.
The party maintained that their alleged conduct contravened Articles 17.4 and 23.1.3 of the Labour Party Constitution.
