Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged residents of the state to accept the apology tendered by the Lead Pastor of Household of Love Churches, Rev. Yinka Yusuf, over his reported unguarded and inflammatory comments against the state and its people, directing that all plans for legal action against the cleric be halted.
The Governor made the call on Monday while speaking at the February edition of the Government House Covenant Service held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
Governor Eno said the matter should be laid to rest following the public apology by Rev. Yusuf, stressing that Akwa Ibom people are known for their hospitality and accommodating nature.
“Since he has apologized, we should accept it, put the entire issue behind us. As a state, we have accepted the apologies,” the Governor said.
He noted that Akwa Ibom had, in the same period, been blessed with the visit of the Founder and General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, who held a five-day crusade in the state.
Governor Eno commended security agencies for their diligence, timely intelligence gathering and prompt intervention, which he said helped to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
He disclosed that he had directed the State Attorney General to discontinue preparations for legal proceedings against Rev. Yusuf.
“The youths had already picked up the tape and were ready to take drastic actions if not for the timely intervention of the security agencies, which prevented him from coming into the state,” the Governor said.
“We have always prayed that nothing evil should happen to our guests. We are hospitable people, and we ensure that our visitors come in peace and leave in peace.”
In a related development, Governor Eno announced that activities marking the second anniversary of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA) would hold on February 20, 2026, at the Ibom Hall, Uyo.
He noted that the date coincides with the birthday of his late wife, said the event would also serve as a posthumous celebration in her honour.
