The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has said that providing affordable, decent housing for police officers is critical to improving their welfare, morale, overall performance across the country.

According to the police chief, officers who are assured of good living conditions are better motivated to carry out their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.

IGP Egbetokun made this known in Abuja while receiving the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Shehu Osidi, and his management team during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters.

He described the visit as timely and important, stressing that strong partnerships between the Nigeria Police Force and housing institutions are necessary to achieve long term welfare goals for serving officers and retirees.

The police boss reaffirmed that staff welfare remains a top priority under his leadership, adding that access to affordable housing will help boost officers confidence and dedication to duty.

He also emphasized the commitment of the Police Force to building strategic relationships that will ensure dignity and stability for personnel both during and after active service.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Shehu Osidi, praised the Police Force for its cooperation, describing it as one of the bank’s key institutional partners.

He called for deeper collaboration to remove administrative challenges, ensure that police officers can easily access mortgage facilities and housing benefits.

Osidi further assured that the bank remains committed to expanding housing opportunities for police personnel through special mortgage packages and improved service delivery.

Access to decent housing has remained a major challenge for many police officers, with a large number still living in rented apartments throughout their years of service. Recent efforts by the Police Force aim to address this through partnerships with housing and financial institutions.
