Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum has formally asked South Korean President, Lee Jae Myung to help arrange additional concerts for K-pop sensation BTS in Mexico, citing unprecedented demand.
The band, returning from a hiatus due to mandatory military service, is set to start a world tour in April following the release of their new album Arirang in March. Only 150,000 tickets were initially available in Mexico, but around One million fans are seeking access, prompting concerns over fairness and resale practices.
Mexico’s consumer watchdog has opened an investigation into Ticketmaster, sanctioned resale platforms like StubHub and Viagogo for “abusive, disloyal practices,” as resale prices skyrocketed to over 92,000 pesos (~$5,300) for VIP tickets.
Three concerts are currently scheduled at Mexico City’s GNP Seguros Stadium from May 7–10, and authorities are exploring new guidelines to prevent ticketing abuses in the future.
