Bengaluru City Police have dismantled a major drug operation with the arrest of Ernest Onyekachi Ugah, 45, following the seizure of large quantities of MDMA and ecstasy pills valued at over ₦800 million on the international market.

The Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch carried out the arrest on the night of Monday, January 19, in the Munnekolalu area, under the jurisdiction of Marathahalli Police Station. Officers recovered 2.5 kilograms of MDMA and 300 ecstasy pills from the suspect.

Police sources revealed that Ugah had been using a rented apartment in Munnekolalu to distribute narcotics across Bengaluru, supplying local dealers, party organisers, and nightlife users. The suspect reportedly has two previous cases under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, having only recently been released from prison.

Investigations indicate Ugah entered India five years ago for medical treatment, overstayed his visa, remaining in the country illegally while engaging in criminal activities. Authorities are examining the wider network linked to the seized drugs, including suppliers, collaborators, distribution channels, with potential international connections.

Police have registered a fresh case against Ugah under the NDPS Act. Officers emphasized the importance of fast-track trials and stricter bail conditions for repeat offenders, particularly foreign nationals, to prevent recidivism.

The operation underscores Bengaluru’s status as a hotspot for synthetic drugs and reflects law enforcement’s resolve to combat drug trafficking and protect the community. Authorities are working with immigration officials and may liaise with foreign agencies to ensure Ugah faces appropriate legal action, including potential deportation after prosecution.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to support ongoing efforts against narcotics.
