The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports alleging threats of mutiny by soldiers over salaries, allowances, describing the claims as false, misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the report, published by Sahara Reporters, was based on anonymous, unverifiable sources and did not reflect the reality within the Army.

According to the Army, there has been no threat of mutiny at any time, stressing that mutiny is a serious offence under military law, incompatible with the values, discipline and professionalism of Nigerian Army personnel.

“At no time has there been any threat of mutiny within the Nigerian Army. Mutiny is alien to the ethos of our officers and soldiers, who remain loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” the statement said.

The Army noted that its personnel are trained to channel grievances through established military procedures rather than public platforms, adding that claims circulating through non-official channels do not represent the views or conduct of its officers and soldiers.

Clarifying issues surrounding remuneration, the Army explained that promotion increments represent only one aspect of military pay, should not be misconstrued as total earnings.

It said soldiers’ remuneration includes consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational, field and hardship allowances, as well as other entitlements that vary depending on deployment and responsibilities.

The statement further stated that the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and relevant government agencies, is implementing structured welfare reforms.

These include periodic salary reviews, enhanced operational allowances, improved accommodation, medical care and insurance packages for personnel and their families.

Colonel Anele disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, since assuming office, has initiated engagements with appropriate authorities on troop welfare, noting that these efforts are already yielding positive outcomes.

The Army also commended the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for what it described as consistent commitment towards the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces amid evolving security challenges.

Reaffirming its professionalism, the Army said it remains a cohesive, disciplined force, focused on its constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, supporting internal security operations.

It urged members of the public to disregard what it called unfounded reports, then rely on official communication channels for accurate information concerning the Armed Forces.
