Nigeria has once again demonstrated its leadership role in West Africa as Vice President, Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, attended the inauguration of President S.E. Mamadi Doumbouya in Guinea-Conakry.
The inauguration followed Doumbouya’s victory in the December 2025 general elections, marking the formal end of a four-year military-led transition.
Under Guinea’s new constitution, the president will serve a seven-year term, renewable once, an extension from the previous five-year tenure approved by a national referendum in September 2025.
Speaking during the ceremony at the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Conakry, President Doumbouya pledged to uphold the constitution, promote transparent governance, and protect national peace and cohesion.
Vice President Shettima’s presence underscored Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, regional stability, and unity within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
His attendance also reflected efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Guinea-Conakry.
The inauguration attracted a host of African leaders, particularly from the West African sub-region, including heads of state from Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda, and South Africa, alongside the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, and other dignitaries.
Under the Renewed Hope agenda, Nigeria has continued to play a stabilising role in the region, advocating democratic governance as a cornerstone for peace and prosperity.
Vice President Shettima’s visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, foster development initiatives between the two nations.
