Troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a coordinated security operation in the Kajuru/Kujama general area of Kaduna State.
The rescue operation was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, and shared via the Nigerian Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to the statement, the victims were rescued on January 5, 2026, as part of a series of coordinated military operations conducted across Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.
Lieutenant Colonel Umar said the operations were aimed at restricting the activities and freedom of movement of violent extremists and other criminal elements within the Joint Operations Area.
He explained that troops of Sub-Sector 5 were already engaged in clearance operations in the Kujeni area when they received a distress alert about the movement of armed criminals around the Kasso-adjoining hills.
“Troops swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest,” Umar said.
Following the encounter, the troops carried out a thorough exploitation of the area, which led to the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims.
The rescued victims were subsequently handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families.
Commending the troops for their bravery and professionalism, the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Wase, praised their conduct during the operation.
He urged the troops to remain on maximum alert and to sustain the aggressive operational tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across Kaduna State and neighbouring areas through sustained military operations.
