President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other Nigerians who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State.
The 21 victims were rescued on Monday afternoon during a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving security agencies and local vigilantes.
Tinubu disclosed the development in a statement posted on X, saying the victims were found in a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area.
The rescued group comprises eight males and 13 females.
“I am delighted to receive the news that the fifteen members of the National Youth Service Corps and six other innocent and law-abiding Nigerians abducted last week in Kogi State by some criminal elements have regained their freedom,” the President said.
He said the operation involved personnel from the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and local vigilante groups.
Tinubu said the victims were receiving medical attention and would subsequently be reunited with their families.
The President noted, however, that the security operation had not ended, as security personnel were continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He assured Nigerians that those responsible for the abduction, as well as anyone who assisted the perpetrators, would be brought to justice.
“Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime,” Tinubu said.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security and ensuring that Nigerians can travel across the country without fear.
He commended the personnel involved in the rescue operation for their courage and praised the families of the abductees for their patience during the ordeal.
Tinubu also reassured parents and relatives of NYSC members that the government remained committed to protecting corps members and other Nigerians.
He commended members of the country’s security and intelligence services for their efforts in securing the release of the abducted victims.
