The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver of the Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle involved in the fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two close associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
The driver, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was on Friday charged before a Sagamu Magistrate Court, however, the case was adjourned till January 20, 2026, to allow for further proceedings.
Kayode’s arraignment followed investigations into the accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, near Danco along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The crash claimed the lives of Kevin Latif Ayodele, 36, a British-Nigerian citizen, and Sina Ghami, 36, a British citizen, both members of Joshua’s training and support team.
Police sources disclosed that the Lexus SUV allegedly lost control after a tyre burst during an overtaking manoeuvre, reportedly while travelling above the permitted speed limit.
The vehicle was said to have collided with an illegally parked truck loaded with soy beans on the highway’s hard shoulder, resulting in a violent impact that tore off part of the SUV.
While Ayodele and Ghami died instantly, Joshua and the driver sustained only minor injuries.
Joshua was later discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue his recovery from home.
Kayode, who also received treatment for minor injuries, was subsequently transferred to the Ogun State Police Headquarters for questioning before being charged.
The bodies of the deceased were flown out of Lagos for burial arrangements in London, after Joshua and his mother paid their last respects at a funeral home in the state.
Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities also said to be searching for the driver of the truck involved in the crash, who reportedly fled the scene.
The next court sitting on January 20 is expected to provide further clarity on the charges and the outcome of the investigation.
