The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a newly redesigned Man-of-the-Match trophy at the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, describing it as a symbol of Africa’s unity, diversity, and evolving football identity.

Introduced from the tournament’s opening match on December 21, the trophy represents a deliberate shift by CAF and title sponsor TotalEnergies to align individual honours with Africa’s shared values, cultural heritage, and growing influence on the global football stage.

The trophy features 24 radiant beams, symbolizing each of the 24 participating nations. The design highlights the distinct identities of African countries while reflecting how the continent’s football strength is rooted in collective unity. Its blended materials represent diversity, while the converging beams underscore football’s power to unite cultures, nations, people through a shared passion.

At the centre of the design is the Damask rose, a symbol of host nation Morocco, serving as a visual tribute to place, heritage, and the historic moments being created at AFCON 2025.

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman was crowned Man-of-the-Match following a composed, influential performance in Nigeria’s 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday.

Describing the award as deeply meaningful, Lookman said it represents more than individual achievement.

“Winning this feels special because it represents more than one player. It shows that African football stands for unity, pride, excellence,” he said.

He added that the trophy motivates players to inspire others, give their best on the pitch, knowing they are part of something greater than themselves.

The new Man-of-the-Match trophy has also been won by Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi, reinforcing its role in recognizing outstanding performances across AFCON 2025.
