President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the family of Chief Arthur Christopher Mbanefo, Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who passed away at the age of 95.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Mbanefo as an accounting icon, administrator, and elder statesman who served the country with integrity, dedication, and patriotism.

President Tinubu highlighted the late Mbanefo’s contributions in both public service and the private sector, noting that he played a key role in pioneering innovations in Nigeria’s accountancy, tax, and audit systems.

Chief Mbanefo served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and held the position of Pro-Chancellor at the University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ahmadu Bello University.

He was also a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

The President commiserated with Mbanefo’s friends, associates, and the people of Anambra State, urging all who mourn him to take solace in his enduring legacy and contributions to national development.
