Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of N1.01 trillion.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

Governor Diri had initially presented a budget estimate of N991.371 billion to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. However, after legislative review, the lawmakers increased the figure to N1.01 trillion.

The statement further disclosed that the Governor also assented to six other bills during the signing ceremony held at the Government House in Yenagoa.

The bills are the Rural Access Funds Law 2025, Rural Access Road Authority Law 2025, Water Sector Law 2025, Statistics Law 2025, Harmonised Taxes and Levies Approved List for Collection Law 2025, and the Bayelsa Medical University Amendment Law 2025.

Explaining the budget adjustment, Diri said he originally presented a revised estimate of N998.371 billion to the House of Assembly on November 13. Following detailed scrutiny and consultations with ministries, departments and agencies, the legislature increased the budget by N17.7 billion, representing 1.77 per cent.

The Governor assured Bayelsans that his administration would ensure full implementation of the 2026 budget, noting that the Government successfully maintained the January–December budget cycle in the outgoing year.
