The Cross River State Government has directed all commercial vehicle operators across the state to strictly comply with the use of officially approved state colours, warning that defaulters will face sanctions when enforcement begins on January 31, 2026.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16 in Calabar by the Ministry of Transportation, signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Ene Cobham.
According to the statement, the order forms part of the State Government’s resolve to sanitize the transport sector, strengthen public safety across the state.
The ministry stated that the directive applies to all categories of commercial vehicles, transport unions, other stakeholders operating within the state, stressing that the Government would no longer tolerate the use or reintroduction of off-coloured vehicles.

It explained that the adoption of the approved state colours, alongside a mandatory security number system, is aimed at promoting uniformity, improving regulation, enhancing security within the transport sector.
The Ministry does not recognize the reintroduction of off-colours or any deviation from the approved state colours”, the statement said, adding that appropriate sanctions would be meted on operators who fail to comply with the directive.
The Government noted that the policy would help safeguard lives and property, curb criminal activities involving commercial vehicles, align with its vision of a clean, safe and well-regulated transportation system.
Commercial vehicle operators were urged to regularize their vehicles, cooperate with relevant authorities, ahead of the enforcement date to avoid penalties.
Recall that in January, the state government directed all commercial vehicles to adopt the state’s iconic blue and white colours as part of efforts to enhance public safety, streamline the transport sector.
