Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party, just days after announcing his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of Accord.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke also revealed that he will be seeking a second term in 2026 under the platform of the party, popularly known as the “Thumb-Up” party.
Adeleke disclosed that he actually joined Accord more than a month ago.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” he said.
“We intend to pursue a second term to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.”
The Governor explained that he opted for Accord because its philosophy of welfarism aligns closely with his administration’s emphasis on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
Welcoming party leaders to the Government House, Adeleke said the coming election demands unity and inclusive leadership.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. Our party, Accord, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance,” he added.
“Since joining the party, I have been fascinated by its philosophy. The welfare of the people should always be at the heart of public leadership.”
The governor declared Accord as the new political platform for residents across Osun West, East, and Central, urging supporters in communities from Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland to Osogbo, Ede to Igbajo, and others to “thumb up” for continuity in 2026.
Adeleke said Osun voters who elected him in 2022 are ready to support his bid for another term, noting that the majority of residents desire stability and ongoing development.
Adeleke had formally announced his exit from the PDP on December 1, pointing to persistent leadership crises at the national level.

In a resignation letter earlier submitted to PDP ward officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ede North, and later posted on his Instagram page, he wrote:
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the PDP at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation on November 4, 2025. I thank the party and its members for the opportunities they gave me as Senator and now as Governor of Osun State.”
With this move, Adeleke becomes the most prominent political figure to join Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election, a development analysts say will significantly reshape Osun’s political landscape.
