Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The primary election, held on Monday, saw Bello defeat two other aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the seat.

The other contestants in the race were the APC Diaspora Secretary, Momoh Obaro, and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.

Bello’s emergence comes amid recent political tension and speculation within party circles regarding his participation in the contest. Reports had earlier suggested that there were concerns surrounding his screening process, creating uncertainty over his eligibility for the primary election.

However, his victory in the exercise appears to have settled the doubts, positioning the former governor as the APC candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District ahead of the next election cycle.

The outcome is expected to shape political discussions within the state as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 polls.
